Men & Women Shed

Monster sale

The next monster sale will be in Glenealy village Hall on Sunday 23rd June from 12 noon to 3pm. Anyone with donated items, please contact the hall on 0404 44040. This is instead of our Auction to include household furniture, Bric a Brac and much more. All support greatly appreciated.

Blessing of the graves

The blessing of the graves will take place in Glenealy on Saturday 20th July at 3pm. Refreshments in the Hall afterwards courtesy of Glenealy Tidy Towns.

Pilates

Foroige youth club

Indoor Bowls

Indoor bowls has resumed in Glenealy village hall on Wednesdays at 8pm. A great hobby for the winter months. New players always welcome.

LARAGH-GLENDALOUGH

Elevation Cheer and Acro Summer Camp

We are holding our annual summer camp in the Brockagh Resource Centre Laragh for children aged 4+. Our camps are for those who love to dance and learn new skills! Camps will consist of tumbling, stunts, Cheer & Pom, Acro dance and of course lots of fun! Laragh 15th - 19th July Primary/Level 1 at 10am to 1pm and Level 2+ on from 10am - 2pm. Glendalough Heritage Forum

Just finishing the first of two weeks of Glendalough Heritage Forum community post-excavation 2024. Last week was at the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh. Sorting samples and checking artefacts. Many thanks to The Heritage Council, Wicklow County Council and UCD School of Archaeology for support and Brockagh Resource Centre for hosting!

We also hosted a visit from 66 children from St Kevin’s National School, which was great fun! Thanks to all of our volunteers for their time last week - great progress made on some key post excavation tasks. looking forward to one more week in the UCD labs in July.

Zumba Class

Zumba is now finished for the Summer but will be back in September.

Tidy Towns

Newtownmountkennedy Tidy Towns seeking volunteers to help out with their Monday nights tidy ups (weather permitting). Can you help? Look out for volunteers wearing yellow hi-visability vests around the village or contact 085-7133299 if interested and for a more precise location on the night.

GAA club news

Mini magpies continues every Saturday morning at 11:15am, with a great turnout of boys and girls aged 4 and 5, learning the basics of GAA while having FUN. Mini magpies are sponsored by Adrian Dunne pharmacy.

There is a U7 & U9 go games blitz away to Ashford next Friday 21st at 6.45. Training for both continues every Monday evening.

The ladies team will host Ashford in their second cup game on Wednesday the 19th, throw in 8pm.

Our Dad’s & Lads team continue to train on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm and are always on the look out for new players. No previous playing experience required and no minimum level of fitness. For further information please contact Michael Synnott on Tel: 086 9061826.

Our Newtown Maggies G4MO team took part in the South Leinster Gaelic for Mother’s and Others Festival day last Saturday, which was hosted by Bray Emmets GAA Club. It was a great day with plenty of football and fun had by all.

There was no winner of last week’s lotto draw. The numbers were 1-9-12-13. There were 3 match 3 winners. Next week’s jackpot is €8,100. The lotto draw is held every Monday evening at 8pm, tickets are only €2. The next lotto draw will be Monday the 17tg of June. Tickets are available to buy in most local outlets. If you are interested in selling club lotto tickets, please get in contact with James Kelly or Robert Nolan.

Bingo

Bingo is played at Newtownmountkennedy Community Centre every Friday. Doors open at 7.30 p.m., starts at 8.30 p.m. – bring a friend.

Music in Calary

Wednesday 19th June: Ella Nagy (piano) and Sulamita Pyvovar (piano) will play pieces by JS Bach, Cesar Franck and Franz Liszt. They will conclude the concert by playing a duet.

Saturday 22nd June: “Ina Boyle and her World”. Orla Shannon (soprano), David Scott (baritone) and Aileen Cahill (piano) will perform a selection of songs written by Ina Boyle to celebrate the songbook of the Enniskerry composer, which was published in 2023.

Music in Calary is delighted to be able to welcome all of these performers and we would also like to thank Wicklow County Council for their support.

Results of draw held on Sunday 16th June. There was no jackpot winner the numbers drawn were: 13, 19, 21 & 22. There were seven match three winners. Molly Byrne, Christine Price, M & M Belton, Collette Connolly, Caroline Campion, Patricia Kavanagh and Adrienne Gaskin. Next week’s jackpot will be €22,900.

Mining Heritage Event

An event to celebrate the workers and rich heritage of the Glendasan mines is planned for Sunday 23rd June 2024 at 3pm.

This event is hosted by Robbie Carter, Honorary President of “The Glens of Lead” in association with the Wicklow Mountains National Park. A historic “mine bogie” artefact has been returned to the valley, where it operated during the 1940s and 50s, bringing the story of this historic industrial landscape back to life.

All are welcome to this event, particularly relatives of deceased miners. Transport will be provided from the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh (parking charge may apply) at 2pm for transfer to the mine site. Booking is required to ensure adequate transport can be arranged. Please reserve your spot by calling the Information office of the Wicklow Mountains National Park on 0404-45425.

Creative Hub Market

Roundwood Creative Hub Market returns from 11am to 4pm in the parish hall. Eggs, honey, jams, baking, plants, flowers, candles, soaps, waxmelts, bathbombs, knitwear, toys, photography, jewellery, artificial flower arrangements, ceramics and much more. Please support this initiative from local producers and crafters.

Active Retirement

Active Retirement exercise class by SielBleuIreland extended dates every Thursday at the Roundwood Parish Hall from 12:30-13:30pm. All welcome, 10 euro per session

Mobile Library

Wicklow County Council Mobile Library will be in Roundwood Village on Thursday 20th June from 10am until 11.15am and also from 2.10pm until 4.30pm. Come along and join the library. It’s a free service and is a fantastic way to pick up any book that suits your reading interests.
