What sax does David Sanborn play? ›

According to an April 1988 interview in the jazz magazine DownBeat, he had a preference for Selmer Mark VI alto saxophones in the 140,000-150,000 serial number range, all produced in 1967. From the late 1970s, Sanborn played mouthpieces created by Bobby Dukoff. He later played a mouthpiece designed by Aaron Drake.

We use common mnemonics to remember the note names for the lines and spaces of the treble clef. For lines, we remember EGBDF by the word cue “Every Good Boy Does Fine.” Similarly, for the spaces, FACE is just like the word “face.”

Charlie Parker. Out of all the famous saxophone players on this list, we've got to carve a special place out for Charlie Parker. Charlie Parker (1920–1955), the king of Bebop, was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and was perhaps the most influential saxophone player of all time.

David was a customer of Drake Mouthpieces before we met. He personally purchased several of our mouthpieces including the Contemporary Alto 8, NY Jazz 8 and the Jazz alto 8 – he felt the responsiveness and qualities of the “point” of the sound (attack) that he was looking for.

It's all about practise! In practise the pianist learns to remember all phrases, bars and notes. Then they start to gain the muscle memory. Without having the muscle memory the brain will be simply overloaded with a lot to think of, at each bar which results in lack of fluency in performance.

Difficulty, technique, melodic complexity, and the length of a piece all determine how easy it will be to memorize. Professional pianists might need months, maybe even a year, to properly learn, memorize, and perform a concert piece. However, many pieces can be learned and memorized within a few days or weeks.

Learning to read sheet music can be hard at first. It's probably better that you don't start grappling with learning to read until you are ready for it, since it comes with some frustration and will likely test your patience. Learning to read is much easier when you already have some playing ability.
