Here we will highlight some the best running backs of this 2024 and 2025 class. These young man have had breakout seasons that catapult their performances amongst the best and show potential to play beyond their high school tenures. Here are the running backs you should watch this fall of 2022:

RB/MLB Trevor Barry, Iroquois High School, 2024

Trevor Barry at 6’1 205 pounds is a dynamic athlete who is the top playmaker for his team on both sides of the ball. He totals 25 touchdowns on the 21-22 season with 18 of those rushing. Trevor has excellent vision as a tailback and is very tough to bring down when defenders attempt to tackle him. He has a very high ceiling producing over 122 yards per game and leads all rushers in his class with 1344 yards in his sophom*ore season. He makes smooth cuts and does a great job of getting outside defenders to turn up field. He can run inside or outside the tackle box keeping his vision north and can consistently make the first level of defenders miss. Aside from being a strong runner, Trevor also lines up as receiver and can stretch the defense down the field or even in short yardage situations. Wherever he lines up, his yardage after contact is something to awe. If he can work on his speed and burst this offseason to combine with his great strength and size, he could be even more dangerous this fall.

RB/DB Gamaliel Sauveur, Albert Magnus HS, 2024

At 5’11, 175 Gamaliel shows a very high ceiling as a very explosive runner out of the backfield. totals 1324 yards rushing for his 2021 sophom*ore season and 18 TDs in just 8 games. He is a dependable back with above average running ability and willingness to be a blocker when needed. Gamaliel shows to be a 3-down back who can consistently make it to the second and third level in short or long yardage situations. Although not the thickest, he shows great balance as a tough runner to bring down. He has excellent vision and can burst through the gaps in the interior, can turn the corner on outside runs, and with his track-like speed finishes runs into the endzone. Gamaliel’s speed and great use of his body to create angles adds to his ability to conjure up the consistent production we saw from his sophom*ore season. Also does have the ability to catch the ball in space with his great hands we see on special teams. We look for him to be the complete package this fall.

RB/FS Daniel Picart Pleasantville HS 2024

Daniel is 6’1 and weighs 185 pounds. Along with being a star on the football field, Daniel plays lacrosseand varsity basketball. He is the primary scoring option on his team as a reciever and very versatile back also returning punts and kickoffs. He racks up 938 yards in his sophmore year, scoring 11 times in 13 games. He is a very intelligent runner with excellent vision. He has great balance to stay on his feet at point of contact and has strength to break through arm tackles. He has above average agility to dance, spin, and slide through blocks or defenders, Daniel is an exciting player to watch as almost every time he touches the ball he makes it a big gain. He averages a little over 8 yards per carry and averages over 72 yards per game.He has all the tools to out perform hissophom*ore year stats and with some work this offseason he is sure to be a top prospect this fall.

Kenneth Antoine, Cardinal Hayes,2024

Antoine scored 5 touchdowns for the season with 233 yards rushing. He is well built at 5’10 190, a tough runner and really good blocker. He has great hands on option and toss plays with potential to catch ball in more space.New York Rising Stars at the Running Back Position - Prep Redzone (6)He is a physical, downhill typerunner who can absorb contact and always make positive yardage and does a great job leaning his body forward. He shows flashes of great breakaway speed if given the opportunity. If he could improve on staying on his feet more just a little more and develop more of that untapped strength, we could be looking at one of the top RB prospects in the state. With Cardinal Hayes senior playmakers graduating, Antoine has great potential to have a breakout season for the fall 2022 as he improves to be the primary weapon out of the backfield.

Liam Thorpe, Fieldstown HS 2025

Liam stands 6ft and weighs 175 pounds and moves like a pro. He lines up primarily in the backfield averaging just over 100 yards rushing per game and averaging an additional 71 yards per game from receiving yards. He has excellent hands to catch the ball anywhere on the field. As a ball carrier he has an above average ability to decelerate and accelerate quickly, along with his 4.6 speed, making him very elusive to defenders. He is swift, but also is well built at his age and size as he shows strength breaking multiple arm tackles whenever he is contacted. Liam plays with great effort and seems to always keep his wheels turning even when it seems the play is blown up.
